Have you ever wondered? What do the birds eat? Where does the food come from? Where did these birds come from? Join one of our keepers as they do the morning feeding on our exhibit line, and learn about what we feed the birds, where they come from, and a lit bit about the individual birds that you will meet! Meet opposite the wildlife hospital or catch up with the walk on your own.

Hey! There's Nature in My Woods! - A Guided Nature Hike

When: May 24, June 28, July 26, August 23, September 27, October 25 | 9am - 11am

Join us for a leisurely 2-hour hike through our oak hickory forest to see what kind of nature is in our woods. An expert naturalist will lead you on your hike – where you may see birds, reptiles, amphibians and mammals. Learn about trees, rocks and who knows what else! Each hike will be a new experience depending on the season and creatures we encounter.

World Bird Sanctuary’s in-house band, “The Raptor Project” performs songs from their popular children’s environmental education CDs while birds fly just inches over your heads. Fun songs include “Turkey Named Fred”, “Roadkill Shiver”, “What’s the Matter”, “Animal Noises” and others. “Raptor Project” performances are followed by performances by local artists such as Javier Mendoza and others. Bird Banding

When: 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month thru August
Where: Opposite the Wildlfie Hospital.
Admission: Admission and parking is FREE.
Watch our field studies crew catch, band and release song birds on site as part of the World Bird Sanctuary Songbird Population Study. The data captured is analyzed and reported to the Bird Banding Lab at the United States Geological Service so that it can be incorporated into a nationwide database that tracks the data of birds as they move throughout the United States. This information provides insight into which areas are used as migration pathways, where birds are breeding, and other important information that is necessary in determining conservation action plans for bird species around the country.

International Vulture Awareness Day sponsored by Ameren Missouri

Join us as we celebrate vultures with zoos and conservation groups around the world. Meet vultures from North America and Africa, as well as a live Andean Condor. There will be free-flight shows featuring live flying vultures. A fun kids activity center will include games and a Vulture ‘Scavenger’ Hunt. Gifts and souvenirs will be on sale.
