Our Mission:

The World Bird Sanctuary’s mission is to protect and preserve birds and their habitats through conservation, rehabilitation, and education.

About The World Bird Sanctuary

Established in 1977, the World Bird Sanctuary, located on 305 acres of developed and undeveloped forest in St. Louis, Missouri, is dedicated to the protection and preservation of birds around the world. The Sanctuary houses over 200 birds representing 60 species worldwide, including 8 eagle species, 11 owl species, and even rarer endangered species like the Vietnam pheasant and Northern bald ibis. We treat over 750 sick or injured birds a year through our Kathryn G. Favre Foundation Raptor Hospital, with an impressive “release back to the wild” rate of more than 65%. Our educational programming connects with more than 125,000 people directly every year and millions indirectly through social media and extended messaging. From a conservation standpoint, we are partnering with organizations nationwide and in countries such as South Africa, Indonesia, and Vietnam, developing joint programs to support endangered species globally. What began as a raptor rehabilitation center has flourished into a globally esteemed organization committed to conservation, education, and rehabilitation of multiple species in need.
