

Junior volunteers have the opportunity to assist with daily chores in the education and animal management departments. This position allows young aspiring naturalists to be in a safe proximity to the animals, while learning about conservation and animal care.
Requirements
Junior volunteers must be at least 13 years old, but must be at least 16 years old to handle the birds of prey. Junior volunteers between 13 and 15 years of age are taught to handle a small variety of animals, and can begin training to handle raptors at age 16.
- Must be at least 13 years old.
- Volunteer at least 8 hours a month.
- Attend a minimum of 3 volunteer meetings per year.
- Have a current Tetanus vaccination.
How to Apply
1. Complete the Online Junior Volunteer Application.
2. The World Bird Sanctuary Volunteer Coordinator will review the application and contact the legal guardian.
Approved applications will be notified via email or phone with an invitation to the next volunteer orientation meeting. Incomplete applications will not be considered, and completion of an application does not guarantee an volunteer position will be offered. A parent or legal guardian’s signature will be required for all junior volunteers.
Available Positions
Animal Management
Requires handling of animals and outdoor work.
Junior Volunteers have the chance to work closely with a variety of birds and assist the staff with cleaning, feeding and training activities. This area is behind the scenes and rarely involves interacting with visitors to the World Bird Sanctuary.
Junior Naturalist
Requires handling of animals and outdoor work.
Junior Volunteers have the opportunity to share their interest and passion for animals in our Nature Center and Environmental Education Center. Each area is open to the public and involves interaction with visitors.
Assist the Office of Wildlife Learning and our Education Staff with the care and husbandry of animals (birds, reptiles and mammals) housed in the Nature Center and the Environmental Education Center. Help maintain exhibits and displays, interact with World Bird Sanctuary guests by greeting them, answering questions, discussing points of interest found on site, and assisting in the gift shop.
